African ownership of narrative next

A new voice for hard questions.

Welcome to Africa vs The Future. Our goal is to help inspire traction and real world action in dealing with the often ignored underlying challenges facing Africa in the 21st century.

Africa vs The Future (AvtF) exists to fill a media gap: the fundamental, “hard” questions about the continent's future too often go unasked, by citizens and by the powers that be.

Why

The world is changing fast. Nationalism, identity, self-determination and sovereignty are back at the centre of politics, and the post-war order is being questioned. Africa vs The Future refuses both the platitudes and the victimhood of the past. It looks at the present from a centrist, strategic and tactical point of view.

The project looks at the innovations and trends happening in the world today. It asks questions, and tries to inspire them, in the minds of citizens across the continent's 55 states. The goal is tangible, practical action based on self-reliance, clarity and unapologetic ownership.

What we believe

We are not Pan-African. We believe in the long, ancient diversity of the continent and in what that diversity brings to a new narrative. In our view, the practical, enduring idea is aligned and enlightened self-interest: aligned goals, aligned purpose and conscious interdependence between nations.
